Kairy Koshoeva – guest performance at a gala concert

NSMS faculty member, Dr. Kairy Koshoeva, an Honorary Artist of Kyrgyzstan, gave an invited guest performance at a gala concert dedicated to the100th anniversary of the Kara-Kyrgyz Autonomous Region, and to the 30th anniversary of the Kyrgyzstan National Conservatory of Music on May 24, 2024. She performed at the opening concert at the International Forum of Deans of Higher Learning Institutions of Music in the Grand Hall of the Conservatory in Bishkek. There, she inaugurated the Steinway & Sons grand piano bestowed by the government of Kyrgyzstan to the National Conservatory of Kyrgyzstan.

NSMS Students Receive Awards in Elite Music Competition

An Asian country the size of Nebraska, Kyrgyzstan may be known for its breathtaking mountain ranges, swooping eagles, and horse-borne archers. But there is another piece to the Kyrgyz identity: a passion for music. That passion has given rise to a rich musical tradition among the country’s 6.5 million inhabitants. One type of music includes the lively melodies and rhythms of the komuz (a three-stringed guitar made of apricot wood) and the kyl kyyak (a bowed instrument). Another is the classical tradition of European and Asian art music.

Kairy Koshoeva Wins International Competition

Dr. Kairy Koshoeva recently received first prize in the piano solo category in Musica Classica: Second International Video Competition in Russia. Dr. Koshoeva submitted video recordings of live, unedited performances of Liszt’s Spanish Rhapsody, arrangements of Kyrgyz songs by A. Ogombaev, and a transcription of “Mash Botoi” by her teacher, M. Burshtin. We have heard Dr. Koshoeva perform these pieces, and agree that her award is well-deserved. Please take a moment to view her prize-winning videos.
